If you went looking for the Q&A section on your Google Business Profile recently and couldn’t find it, you’re not losing your mind and you didn’t do anything wrong. Google turned it off.

Google shut off the Q&A API in late 2025, and the public-facing section has been disappearing from listings since. If you go to your profile now expecting to see questions from customers, with your own answers sitting under them, there’s a real chance it’s just gone. Google’s own support community has threads full of business owners asking the same “where did my Q&A go” question, with Google reps confirming it’s intentional, not a bug.

I get why that’s unsettling. You spent time seeding good questions and answers on that section (hours and parking, do you take walk-ins, is there a service fee), and now it’s vanished with no warning and no export button. That’s a legitimate annoyance, and you’re right to be a little irritated Google didn’t just email everyone first.

Here’s the part that should calm you down: Q&A was never a big lead driver for most local businesses. Google’s own stated reason for killing it lines up with what a lot of us in local SEO already suspected. The section filled up with old, wrong, or unmoderated answers (sometimes from randoms with no connection to the business), and it turned into more clutter than help. Google says it’s moving toward AI-generated answers pulled straight from your profile, your reviews, and your website instead of an open comment section anyone could post to. Google hasn’t published exactly what that looks like or how fast it’s rolling out, but the direction is clear: your existing profile data, not an open comment thread.

What this actually changes for you

Practically, not much, as long as your profile information is accurate elsewhere. The AI answers Google is generating now come from the same data your profile already has: your hours, your services, your posts, what people say in your reviews. So the real lesson isn’t “go mourn your Q&A section.” It’s “make sure the information Google is now pulling answers from is actually correct.”

That means your services list, your business description, your hours, and your most recent Google Posts all matter more than they used to, not less. Say a customer used to find “yes, we do same-day service, no trip fee” in a Q&A answer you wrote. If that fact only ever lived in that now-deleted section, the AI answer has nothing to pull from, so it either guesses wrong or says nothing, and you never find out that’s why the call didn’t come in.

What to actually do this week

Pull up your profile and read it like a stranger would. Is “do you offer free estimates,” “are you licensed and insured,” or whatever your customers used to ask in Q&A actually answered somewhere in your Business Description or Services tab, or a recent post? If not, add it there now. Not as a Q&A entry, that door’s closed, but as real profile content Google’s AI can pull from.

If you had a Q&A answer correcting something wrong that a stranger posted (bad info shows up there more than people realize), double-check that the correct version lives in your actual profile fields now. That old correction doesn’t carry over on its own.

This is a small, boring task. It’s also the kind of thing that’s easy to keep putting off because nothing breaks today: your listing still shows up, the phone still rings. The cost shows up later, quietly, when a customer asks your AI-generated answer something and it guesses wrong because the real answer only ever lived in a section Google deleted.
